RWE Offshore Wind Services, LLC
Functional area: Engineering
Location: US
As a company, RWE is well placed for the Floating Offshore Wind (FOW) market, with ambitious growth targets to achieve 1GW floating either in construction or in operation by 2030 as part of the Growing Green roadmap towards carbon neutral by 2040. The delivery of RWE’s future FOW pipeline across the different regions, would depend on achieving economies of scale for the production and manufacturing of the floating structures. On such basis, RWE has set up a central department for Floating Engineering and Industrialization (FE&I) in the Offshore Engineering global function. The FE&I department supports the delivery of RWE floating projects and includes the assessment of the floating foundation site suitability as well as the Industrialization to facilitate decisions on project-region basis as well as down selection in general.
At present FOW has a broader technology landscape if compared to bottom fix, where in general, technology progress at high speed and learnings from projects can influence each other positively, Engineering effort is focused on the step change towards industrialization for delivery. The lack of a dedicated supply chain in some cases, would lead projects to balance between local requirements and the economies of scale, engage with industrial players, as well as local authorities to secure development and availability of infrastructure. RWE FOW Engineering & Industrialization Department is shaped with the perspective of a highly experienced interdisciplinary competence center to achieve the necessary holistic perspective for delivery of commercial scale of floating offshore. This also includes the need for a strategic perspective on the cost-down journey for FOW.
