The Finnish Meteorological Institute's Research Coordination group seeks a Seasonal worker for a summer job in Helsinki to support the building and testing of a new instrument to measure water uptake on nano particles at the FMI office in Kumpula, Helsink
Are you looking for a summer job in science and research? Apply for this fantastic opportunity to work with experts in the field of cloud microphysics and contribute to the advancement of climate research!
Measuring the water uptake on soluble and insoluble particles reveals much about their interaction with water, which is an important factor to understand the formation of cloud droplets at the micro scale to air quality, visibility degradation, and the effect of clouds on climate change at a global scale. In this project, we are building a Hygroscopicity Tandem Differential Mobility Analyzer to characterize the hygroscopic growth of particles when they are exposed to controlled humidity conditions. The work will involve supporting a team of scientists in the lab in testing and developing the software to control the instrument. Depending on your skills and preferences, your contribution to the project could include optimizing the setup and software, performing characterization experiments, analyzing the data. This work could constitute the experimental part of a master thesis.
Our expectations of the applicant
- Master's student in meteorology, physics, chemistry, computer science or engineering
- Advanced Python coding skills
- Interest in atmospheric physics and climate
- Good English language skills
- Affinity for experimental work
Language skills needed in the job
