About the Role
We seek a skilled Technical Writer to join our ranks on-site in Oulu, Finland, or Berlin, Germany (permanent contract). Could this be you?
Your job will be to improve and extend the documentation of the world's leading cross-platform C++ framework, Qt. Qt is renowned for its excellent documentation, developed and maintained by a team of dedicated software engineers, domain experts, and Technical Writers. Together, we aim to write documentation that is clear, accurate, and accessible. Do you feel the urge to fix information that is inaccurate or incomplete? Do you know a systems programming language? Do you love getting direct feedback on your work, knowing thousands of users rely on it daily? Then this might be the right job for you!
We believe technical documentation for software should not be an afterthought, but an integral part of the software development cycle. Qt's documentation is therefore developed and maintained alongside the software implementation, using the same agile setup, versioning system, and stringent review process as we use for the source code. Much of the documentation is indeed written by software developers, outside or inside of the company. But they often need help!
You will
• Work closely with developers to make sure that the documentation is not only technically correct but also consistent and understandable
• Work closely with the developers and other Technical Writers on overview documentation and tutorials, making the full power and breadth of Qt accessible to experts and newcomers alike
About You
• Can express complex information in English clearly and concisely.
• Have experience with a system programming language (ideally C++)
• Have used a markup language like Markdown, reStructuredText, Latex...
• Know the basics of version control and tools like git.
Beneficial skills
• Contributed to open-source projects before?
• Used API documentation tools like qdoc, doxygen, Javadoc, rustdoc...?
• Participated in agile software development processes?
• Know standards like the Microsoft Style Guide?
What We Offer
• Be part of a dynamic, international company with talented and skilled professionals from around the world.
• Work in a strong team dedicated to making the power of Qt accessible through the best technical documentation.
• Share the company values: collaboration, transparency, and innovation.
• A competitive compensation model with various perks.
• Work-life balance matters: option for a hybrid work-from-home policy and flexible hours. Completely remote is not possible though.
