Researcher/Senior Scientist (Metamorphic Geology)

The Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) is looking for a researcher or senior scientist for the Mineral Economy Solutions unit. Your office is in Espoo, Kuopio or Rovaniemi and you can also work remotely flexibly in Finland. You will focus on Metamorphic Geology research in domestic and international projects with emphasis on Precambrian geology and metallogeny. Your assignment will include research work, field work, funding application preparation, project management and working with customers in consulting assignments. Depending on your experience and capabilities, you may be expected to take a leading role in project generation and management as well as scientific activities. You will be a part of an international research team and you are ready to travel in our international activities.

You will work in the Mineral Economy Solutions unit of about 60 people. The work of our experts focuses on topics related to ore geology and mineral economy. Your future team, Ore Geology and Mineral Systems, consists of 13 experts.

GTK hosts excellent analytical facilities with installation of a Thermo Scientific Neoma MS/MS Multicollector ICP-MS. Funding has also been granted between 2024-2026 for the procurement of a TOF-ICP-MS, a femtosecond laser ablation system and a SF-ICP-MS.

Education, experience and skills expected of an applicant

• A PhD degree in the field of geosciences
• Experience with Metamorphic Geology
• Knowledge of the research problems of Precambrian geology
• Experience in mineralogy, petrology and geochronology using different analytical methods
• A proven scientific publication track record
• Fluent oral and written English skills, and readiness to travel in our international projects
• Well-established international networks

Education, experience and skills that are appreciated

• Experience in structural geology, applied ore geology and metallogenic processes
• Experience in project management
• Experience in funding applications and knowledge of different research funding instruments

Personal qualities desired from the applicant

Information about pay

The total salary at the beginning of employment will be approximately EUR 4311 - 5226 per month. The salary is determined by the competence of the person selected for the position.

Other details

The position is permanent. The starting date is July 8, 2024, or by agreement. The position includes a probationary period.
