TheLarge Correctives Technician Associate reports to, assists and support the Supervisor of Large Correctives in managing and coordinating the operations of the Large Correctives activities performed for RWECE Operations, to assure safe and efficient operations, minimizing cost and optimizing performance in accordance with the Operations Mission Statement.

Responsibilities:

  • Assure that all operation and maintenance activities are performed in a safe manner consistent with policies and procedures established for the wind farm site 
  • Performing up-tower major component replacements on multiple turbines manufactures, including GE, Siemens, Vestas, Gamesa and/or Mitsubishi. Replacements include:
  • Assist in transportation, setup and the operation of up-tower gearbox replacement tools
  • Assure proper storage, maintenance and handling of all Large Corrective tools and equipment
  • Travel up to 80% of the time throughout the USA to service various wind farm facilities
  • Travel up to 5 weeks at a time with at least one week back home rotation
  • Be a self-motivator; Ability to work successfully, safely and independently at remote wind farm locations
  • Willing and able to obtain and maintain an RWE sponsored, Commercial Driver License (CDL), if so requested by RWE for mobilization of our main component equipment
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • GED; Associate degree in Sciences or related field from an accredited school preferred
  •  A 2 year or 4 year college degree from an accredited school, other than correspondence or on-line, in a technical hard science (engineering, physics, power, or closely similar) may substitute for 1 years of experience
  • A current journeyman or master electrician license may substitute for 1 year of experience
  • An A&P degree or analogous military training, along with a minimum of 2 years hands-on work experience may substitute for 1 years of experience
  • A wind technician certificate program can substitute for 1 year of experience
  • Mimum 2 years of overall experience with at least 1 year in to operations and/or maintenance of power generation and related facilities, including experience with wind turbines 
  • Turbine major component replacement experience not required
  • Experience across multiple manufactures (i.e. Siemens, GE, Vestas, Mitsubishi) strongly preferred
  • Previous crane and rigging experience not required
  • Ability to push/pull/lift tools and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work safely in extreme environments (hot sun, cold, etc.)
  • Ability to walk, climb, and stand extensively during the work day
  • Knowledge of and experience with the use of hand and power tools
  • Knowledge of environmental and safety policies and procedures
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability and willingness to travel to and from job sites as assigned
  • High standards of integrity, honor, ethics, safety, productivity and attention to details
  • Travel is required for majority of the time, with long and irregular work hours from time to time on various RWE and third party wind sites throughout the US
  • Primarily a field environment; may include hazardous conditions such as working at height up to 300’, working in confined spaces, exposure to bloodborne pathogens, exposure to energized electrical and rotating equipment, and working in extreme hot and cold conditions
  • Must pass a fit-for-duty medical examination upon hiring and every 2 years thereafter and maintain a body weight of 270 lbs or less
  • Work requires flexibility and full range of movement in confined spaces
  • Work may require providing first aid/CPR; must maintain First Aid/CPR/AED certification
