We are looking for aCommunications Specialist to work as a substitute for a job alternation leave. In this role, you will be able to influence how topics related to the entire Aalto University are communicated to the world.
Aalto University's communication services is looking for a communication specialist to work as a substitute for a job alternation leave from 1 May to 31 October, 2024. The duration of the contract is half a year. In this role, you will work in the university communications team which is responsible for communicating the university's common issues. Our team's goal is to strengthen the university's role and voice in society, develop work community communications and offer communications support to the entire Aalto community.
In your work:
  • You prepare, edit and publish general news related to the university, both internal and external, in various channels. Topics and assignments can come from, for example, management support services, advancement and corporate engagement team and learning services. You also participate in planning the communications activities of various topics.
  • You are involved in planning and implementing the communications of the university's various projects or entities. Such projects include, for example, equality, diversity and inclusion work (EDI) and possible organisational renewals.
  • You coordinate and implement the communications of the opening of the academic year, Day One, which involves building smooth cooperation with a wide network.
  • You monitor the university rankings and their results on different channels while also updating the website in question.
  • You are the responsible editor for the websites presenting Aalto University in general.

Tasks which will be decided upon according to the substitute's background and experience:
  • You act as a media contact regarding the general affairs of the university and participate in weekly content planning. You prepare and distribute press releases about the university's general topics.
  • You prepare and distribute the news of the university's management and board.

What we expect from you:
  • You have solid knowledge of content production in different channels: you fluently write news, produce social media posts and understand how content is tailored for different communications channels.
  • You skillfully plan communications activities for bigger entities. You know how to define the strategic goals, target groups, and choose measures that are effective in terms of communications, analyze their success and change direction if necessary.
  • You act professionally, promptly and with a positive attitude even under pressure. You enjoy working with different networks and media representatives and actively try to find solutions even in complicated situations.
  • The university world is a relevant and possibly familiar environment for you. You are interested and willing to promote the visibility of Aalto University in the public sphere and you actively follow the societal discussions related to the university sector and education.
  • Internationality is natural and familiar to you; in addition to excellent oral and written expression of the Finnish language, you also work fluently in English. Knowledge of the Swedish language is an added advantage.
  • You have a positive and curious attitude to trying new ways of doing things. You will be happy to participate in developing both the university communications team and the entire communications services.

Aalto University's communication services is located in the Dipoli building on the Otaniemi campus, which has excellent metro and light rail connections. It is also possible to partially do the work remotely, and the working hours are flexible.
Salary is determined according to the university salary system in use at Aalto University , and the salary range is around 4000-4500€/ month.
This is a substitute position for a job alternation leave for the period of 1.5.-31.10.2024. Only a person who meets. According to these conditions, the substitute must be an unemployed job seeker at the TE services before the start of the contract. A person who can be hired as a substitute:
  • has been unemployed for at least 90 days in the previous 14 months, or
  • is a person under the age of 30, whose degree was completed less than one year earlier, or
  • is a job seeker under the age of 25 or over the age of 55.

Please note that a full-time student or entrepreneur cannot be hired as a substitute.
