What’s the role all about?

As a Data Engineer, you will work in OP's Data Intelligence department. As a humble squad of 6 data enthusiasts, we’re responsible for the claims data asset of Pohjola Non-Life Insurance. In other words, we live and breathe data, at least during workdays. You'll get involved in making decisions, not just on what information we collect but where and how we store all the information.

Your day-to-day tasks are built around developing ELT and ETL pipelines and data stream solutions. You utilize a variety of data sources in your work and develop analytics and reporting capabilities to meet the needs of the non-life insurance business. In other words, your job is to enable more agile business and support the business in data-driven decision-making. You will participate in the design and implementation of the Data Lake following the information architecture of the future.

To be honest, the best thing in our team is the mutual vibe built on everyone’s expertise and the active spreading of superior knowledge with others. As like-minded fellows, we share a common interest in data and data-driven decision-making. Working in our team is easy-going and relaxed, but definitely productive. Our #1 promise to you is that you’ll get a chance to process extensive data and get acquainted with modern ways of working daily.

What do we hope from you?

Our recruitment is not meant to seem like a cryptographic puzzle, so we strive to tell you as clearly as possible what kind of expertise we believe is crucial to thriving in this role. This includes a previous experience of:

• Cloud Architecture and its components (Azure and Databricks)
• Data modelling
• ELT and ETL solutions (tools such as data factory and Kafka)
• Programming (e.g., SQL, Python, and Spark)
• DevOps knowledge (CI / CD)
• Knowledge of reporting tools (PowerBI) is considered as an extra plus!

We don’t expect you to have thorough experience with all techs and tools mentioned above, but of course, we value your technical background and work experience in similar positions.

However, the main thing is that you have the ability to learn new technological entities, you are ready to dive deep into our daily work and eager to outline the big picture as well as you’ll easily fit into an outgoing team. In addition, we hope that you will work fluently in English and/or Finnish. To be able to work in this role you need to have a valid work permit for working in Finland.
