The Atmospheric Modelling Group of the Finnish Meteorological Institute is looking for a university of applied sciences or higher education student for a summer job at the Atmospheric Research Centre of Eastern Finland in Kuopio. The work involves developing a model that can simulate the properties of aerosols in the atmosphere. The current model version is computationally heavy, so the aim is to reduce the computational cost by modifying the model to utilize GPU computing. The seasonal trainee's task is to develop the model's code so that it works optimally on the GPU cores of supercomputing platforms. More information about the group's activities can be found here:
Our expectations of the applicant
We expect applicants to have 3rd year polytechnic or university studies in computer science or a similar subject, as well as fluency in English. Knowledge and experience in programming (especially GPU and Fortran) and high-performance computing are considered an advantage. The position does not require knowledge of meteorology or physics.
