Place of action:

Radar Solutions provides airborne, ground-based and naval radar solutions to the world market. At Engineering, we have design responsibility for all levels of subsystems for our radar portfolio in areas such as microwaves and antennas, digital functions, software development, printed circuit boards, producibility, mechanical design, power electronics, cabling, computer systems etc. We are responsible for deliveries in time at agreed cost to our projects, as well as meeting our cost targets for development and manufacturing. Engineering has around 700 employees. The Mechanical & Cabling Design organization within Engineering is design responsible for the mechanical and cabling parts of our product portfolio. The department has around 75 employees in Gothenburg.

The thesis work will be conducted at the section of Mechanics with support from the section of Environmental Analysis. The section of Environmental Analysis is responsible for environmental engineering analysis within structural analysis, thermal analysis and material analysis.

Your future challenge:

Within an airborne radar system are powerful electronics that facilitate the function of the radar. These electronics generate heat that must be managed in order to avoid overheating. One interesting alternative is heat storage. Furthermore, it is crucial that the weight of the system is minimized and can withstand heavy vibration and shock loads.

In this application, there is no access to external cooling in the form of a heat exchanger. Therefore, we would like to evaluate different options for cooling within these constraints. The goal is to:

  • Investigate how to implement new cooling technologies in existing systems
  • Present different options for small and light-weight cooling systems
  • Cooling simulation
  • Proof of concept
  • Build a mockup

Your profile:

We are looking for two students studying mechanical engineering or equivalent, preferably within Applied Mechanics and/or Engineering Physics. The work will include finite element analysis (FEM) so knowledge within this is a merit. Two students working together with the thesis is recommended but not a requirement.

This position requires that you pass a security vetting based on the current regulations around/of security protection. For positions requiring security clearance additional obligations on citizenship may apply
